 Lag and Graphics issues.
« Thread Started on Sept 15, 2012, 9:48pm »

I just downloaded the new 9.7 version of Slender and it has some issues.....it lags quite a bit and there's no grass or rock/dirt road for me to follow so I have no idea where to go. Even when I tweek the settings it does'nt look much better. It looks like crap, like the ground is not rendered properly. Is there something wrong with my game or is my computer just not up to the task of running the game?

I'm running it on my 2006 Dell D600 laptop Windows XP Intel Pentium processor 1600MHZ 1.60 GHZ and 1.00 GB of RAM. Not sure what kind of graphics card it has. Any advice or ideas?

If there's no grass detail then telling the difference between grass and the dirt path are hard. The grass can be distinguished by its tiny green specks on the ground, while the dirt path has no green specks whatsoever - the difference between the two are minimal and the path is commonly mistaken for grass by most people.

Judging from the specs of your laptop, it seems a little too low-performance to be playing a game like S:TEP (but then again it's six years old - but according to some experienced users here, it's the game causing the "lag", and the hardware for the most part isn't the one to blame. I'm not sure what to recommend here, but I hope I've cleared things up for you a bit.

Thank you for the response. :) Yeah there's no green, no grass, just a flat, blurry mix of what I'm guessing is suppose to be grass and the dirt path. I've watched Let's Plays of this game and the grass in their games is clearly distinguishable and stands out, it looks like grass and it sways in the wind and the roads in their videos you can clearly see each defined pebble. Also when I start up the game it takes forever to get going and there's some glitching that causes the audio to loop at the menu screen. Everyones games just seem to look so much better than mine, so I'm guessing that is contributed to my graphics card.

I think the game would run ten times better on my mums desktop, her's is newer and has better specs and has a 3D gaming graphics card. But I don't really wanna bug her to let me play it on hers since shes attached to that thing by the hip. lol Oh well...guess I'll just go back to watching other people get scared crapless. XD

No problemo. Sorry to hear your game isn't running well, as there are a ton of people having the same issue - but hope you have fun with the alternative ("watching other people get scared crapless") - lol.

For some reason when I play Slender v0.6, I run the game on Fantastic with the highest tree detail and longest grass length with a perfect frame rate with no lag what-so-ever. Then I download v0.7 and I cannot run the game without Lag on Fastest.... Whats happening?

It is the graphics card and the laptop most likely. It is never the game.

It's very likely the problem involves your graphic drivers. Judging by the overall hardware, I'm almost sure that it's an on-board device. You can try to update your drivers, even though the game will have a unstable framerate due to your 1GB RAM. Try to use Dxdiag to check your specs, so we can be sure about the lag.

And Sanboyyzx, the fog feature uses up a decent amount of VRAM, so try deactivating it.

I personally think it is the game. A friend of mine has 16gb of RAM and an extremely new video card. Still lags like crazy.

I'm having this ultra-lag problem, but it's gotta be my laptop, not my game that's bad. The reason I say this is because I have the game on a USB, and when I play it on my laptop it sucks, but when I play it anywhere else i.e. my dads laptop or a a school laptop, there is no lag. Anyone know I can fix it? And if u do, talk 2 me like ur talking 2 a complete idiot, cos I have no idea about any of this technical hardware and these graphics cards and video cards an stuff.

Well, you're going to need knowledge of it. Could you at least tell us your laptop's specs? Many laptops wont run it, you complete idiot. ;)

I have a gaming desktop. 4.4GHz, 8GB RAM and 1GB AMD Radeon 6670 and I still had lag BUT . . . I have found a fix. Turn off the fog. Yes I know it ruins it a bit but I think it's better than having lag. I'm running at at Fantastic graphics and it's now smooth just like it was before. Parsec need to fix this lag issue as it spoils the game.

Same thing happened to me. Parsec will fix it over time, but he's a tad busy now with S:TA.

here is the deal.
the game cannot run properly with ever single card, it may better or worse depending on your setup, even if it is a crazy good laptop, you still may have problems. its about compatibility, and how unity uses your computer.
